The music is from the Greek song “Misirlou”, first performed by the Michalis Patrinos Rebetiko Band in Athens, Greece in 1927.

The original Armenian lyrics were written by Reuben Sarkisian of Fresno in the early 1950s. Originally it was “Akh Anoushes” instead of Anoush Yar. Reuben Sarkisian was a violin player born in Kharpert in 1895, he recorded his version in old style with violin and oud. Later Onnik Dinkjian with the Batt Masian Orchestra (New Jersey) made a modern version with piano and guitar accomp. Reuben and Onnik’s version has only the first verse and the chorus. I assume the second verse was written for the Paul Baghdadlian version.
